Liege is the 4th tallest city of Belgium and the capital of the province of Li?ge. The city lies at the border of the river Meuse, and thanks its creation to a smaller river, called the Legia. This river created a lot of seditmentation at the site where it ended in the river Meuse. In the early Middle-Ages the city grew from a small village at the site of a Gallo-Roman Villa. Despite its strong historic past and many beautiful buildings and sites from this past, the city has suffered from the closing of the coal-mines and the economic downfall of the metallurgic industry.
