Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is the hub of Northern Thailand. With a population of over 170,000 in the city proper (but more than 1 million in the metropolitan area), it is Thailand's fifth-largest city. Located on a plain at an elevation of 316 m, surrounded by mountains and lush countryside, it is much greener and quieter than the capital, and has a cosmopolitan air and a significant expat population, factors which have led many from Bangkok to settle permanently in this "Rose of the North".

Thailand's green and beauty city can be found in the northern region. Chiang Mai is Thailand's second biggest city with a population of over 500,000. The city's tourism has become increasingly popular. Permanent settlements are common in Chiang Mai. When you set foot on this city, the first places you'd want to visit are museums like the Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center and the Hilltribe Research Institute Museum. This city is rich in historical and religious heritage, so it features a number of Buddhist temples including Wat Chiang Mun, Wat Oo-Mong, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Phra Jao Mengrai. Chiang Mai's oldest temple can be traced back to the 11th century. Several events in Chiang Mai attract numerous international visitors. In January, this city holds Bo Sang Umbrella & Sankampang Handicrafts Festival. In February, the Chiang Mai Flower Festival is held.
